The classic musical “Fiddler on the Roof” will headline YES Theatre's sixth season during the summer of 2015.

Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, “Fiddler on the Roof” is the brainchild of Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and bookwriter Joseph Stein.

Touching audiences worldwide with its humour, warmth and honesty, the show is a staple of musical theatre.
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story focuses on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters.
With the help of a colourful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of a changing social scene and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, the musical's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
“We are thrilled to be tackling this piece,” said YES Theatre’s artistic director Alessandro Costantini, in a press release.

“The story poses the questions of old versus new, new age thinking versus old traditions - I think it is one of the most wonderful pieces of musical theatre that we know.”

Audition and ticket information as well as the full sixth season line-up will be announced in the future.
YES Theatre presents one more production of its current fifth anniversary season Dec. 17-19, as they partner with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra to present a concert-only version of “Les Misérables.”
Tickets are on sale now at yestheatre.com or sudburysymphony.com.
