An opening reception for the Art Gallery of Sudbury's latest Hidden Treasures exhibition is slated for Nov. 14 at 5 p.m.

The exhibit features 200 works for the gallery's permanent collection. The fundraiser gives the public the rare opportunity to see some of the pieces from the AGS vault, while supporting education programs and future exhibitions at the same time.

A number has been assigned to each of the 200 pieces that will be on display, the AGS said in a news release. Those interested can still help the AGS by sponsoring a piece from the permanent collection.

Sponsors, however, won't know which piece in the Hidden Treasurers exhibit they're sponsoring this year — at least until opening night. Those who make a $100 sponsorship donation have their name entered into a lottery and their sponsorship is attached to a corresponding painting through a draw. Sponsors have the opportunity to win donated art works, prints and gallery memberships at the opening reception and throughout the duration of the exhibit.

Sudbury Selections: Hidden Treasures exhibit in Gallery I and II runs from Nov. 15 to Jan. 4.

The exhibition is sponsored by Desjardins and made possible with funds and support from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the City of Greater Sudbury, Quality Inn, Nu-Look Paint and Wallpaper, Evans Lumber, Penguin ASI (Penguin Automated Systems Inc.), Northern Life, and Rewind 103.9.

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is located at 251 John Street. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
