Are you a fan of the comedy skit television show “Saturday Night Live?” How about the CBC shows “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and the “Royal Canadian Air Farce,” or the live comedy troupe The Second City?

If so, you'll probably also enjoy Sudbury Night Live, a pair of dinner and comedy skit shows set to take place at the Cambrian College Student Centre Dec. 5 and 6.

“We're just there to entertain,” said Amber Hicks, one of the actors appearing in the show. “We want to make them laugh.”

Along with Hicks, the shows feature local actors Bill Sanders, Mickey Teed, Chelsea Papineau and Lisa Godin.

Most of them are also the actors behind the Murder by Appointment murder mystery evenings Hicks has organized for the last 20 years.

“Two years ago, my partner in crime, I like to call him — Bill Sanders, who is one of the main writers of all my shows — he's the one that ran this idea about maybe we should break into a bit of skit comedy,” Hicks said.

The troupe did some skit comedy shows in 2012, and they were a great success, she said, but because it was so much work, they haven't gotten around to a repeat until this year.

Besides live comedy, audiences attending Sudbury Night Live can also expect taped skits, music by Kevin Closs, and a carved roast beef buffet.

Hicks said the material is appropriate for those of high school age and older.

“Expect it to be a little racy,” she said. “We do a Cialis commercial.”

Doors to the shows open at 6 p.m. both nights, with dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the show at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $50 each, and are available by phone at 705-566-8101, ext. 7562. Visit www.murderbyappointment.com for more information.
