The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra offers the gift of music Nov. 29 with two concerts sure to delight audiences of all ages.

In a show drawing inspiration from the Victorian-era, the orchestra will invite a number of local performers to be a part of their annual Christmas celebrations.

Theatre Cambrian veterans Dale Pepin and Angel Mannisto will take centre stage with the orchestra to present Brother Heinrich’s Christmas; the story of a monk who receives assistance from his pet donkey and a choir of angels as he tries in vain to write a Christmas carol.

Theatre Cambrian will once again join the orchestra to present a musical telling of the traditional Christmas poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Written in 1822, the poem has become synonymous with holiday traditions and the excitement surrounding the festive season.

In addition to the orchestra, the vocal talents of the Sudbury Secondary School and Cambrian College choirs will be featured. The festive performances Nov. 29 mark the choirs’ first performance with the SSO since 1995.

For those looking for an afternoon holiday treat, the Sudbury Symphony offers an hour-long concert at 2 p.m.

Programmed without an intermission, this performance is perfect for those ages 5-12, or who are new to attending a concert. Prior to the matinée, audience members young and old are invited to join the Sudbury Symphony and Big Brothers and Sisters of Sudbury for fun and festive art activities, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

During the full-length performance at 7:30 p.m., the Sudbury Symphony will perform a number of additional holiday hits and favourite Christmas songs.

Tickets for the Nov. 29 Classical Cheer 2 p.m. performance begin at $5. Tickets for the full-length SSO Joyful performance are $13 to $44. For both concerts, tickets can be purchased by phoning the SSO at 705-673-1280 or online at sudburysymphony.com.
