The third annual Cristina's Coffee House fundraiser takes place March 1 at the Caruso Club.

The event, which includes live music, dancing, a silent auction and sweet treats, raises money for the Northern Cancer Foundation's Cristina Care Fund, helping families who must travel for cancer treatment.

It's in memory of Cristina Roque, who passed away at the age of 29 in March 2012, after a four-year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She spent a lot of time travelling between her Sudbury home and the Ottawa Hospital for treatments.

“She wanted to reach out and help others and was an inspiration to all,” a press release said. “We now help other cancer patients on their journey of hope.”

Over the past two years, the event has raised $30,000, enabling the care fund to help out more than 20 families.

Tickets to the event, which cost $25 each, are available at the Northern Cancer Foundation, Faiella Classic Hair, Caruso Club, by phone at 705-524-3316 or online at cristinacarefund.brownpapertickets.com.
