Poulin was nominated for best male artist, best concert, best album, best producer (along with Stéphane Rancourt) and media favourite.

Local graphic and web designer Christian Pelletier of Studio 123 was also nominated for his work on “Le Paysagiste: Alter Ego,” including for best album cover design and best website.

On top of the Trille Or nominations, Poulin presented a 20-minute-long music showcase at the Contact ontarois music competition in Ottawa last week, and came home with three prizes.

The awards entitle him to play at several upcoming francophone music festivals and events, including at Festival franco-ontarien, Roseq and Festival international de la chanson de Granby.

“It was a great week and a great way to start the year,” Poulin said.

His success isn't a fluke, though. He said he poured his “heart and soul” into the album, and is really proud of it.

Poulin said he strategically released the album last fall — just two years after his last album — to be eligible for the Trille Or awards.

“It puts oil in the machine,” he said. “This is what I'm doing, and it's worth it, when people are noticing and people think it's quality.”

Given he used Indiegogo to find enough money for the project, Poulin said he hopes all the attention he's been getting lately will make it easier to fund future albums. “There's some pretty big doors opened,” he said.

He said he's also looking forward to some of the gigs he won through his performance at Contact ontarois.

Poulin isn't the only local francophone musician or band who received nominations through Trille Or last week.

Stéphane Paquette, another local musician, has been nominated for three awards: best male artist, best songwriter and the Radio-Canada song prize (for “On se r'voit a soir”).

The Francophone group En Bref, made up of Sudbury resident Yves Doyon, along with Shawn Sasyniuk, Martin Laforest and Scott Aultman, is nominated for best band. Marie-Claire et les Hula Hoops was nominated for best female artist.

La Slague du Carrefour francophone de Sudbury was nominated for best music venue.

Christian Pelletier was also nominated for best album cover design for En Bref's album "Silence Radio."

“All the Sudbury people were all rooting for each other and giving high fives,” Poulin said.

Although En Bref also presented a showcase at Contact ontarois, Poulin was the only Sudbury musician to receive any awards. In 2014, however, Stéphane Paquette won five out of the seven available prizes at the competition.
