As an artist, Tate sought to pay homage to the Group of Seven through an exploration of a mixed medium of painting and textured surfaces.

Inspiration from the Group is reflected both in colour choice and the use of eight by 10-inch panels similar to those used by the Group of Seven members in their field studies.
Tate was born in Toronto and has lived in Sudbury since 1969.

Over the years, he has made numerous contributions to the promotion, appreciation and development of Sudbury's arts community as an arts educator at the Ministry of Education (now retired), as an artist, and through community organizations such as the Sudbury Arts Council.

He has worked in various media, most recently in oil and acrylic painting.

A diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease several years ago has not slowed Tate’s artistic activity, and proceeds from the sale of his works will go to the local Parkinson’s Support Group.

The exhibit is open at STC from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily or on show nights until 7:30 p.m. during the run of Mourning Dove (Jan. 22 to Feb 1). For further information, phone 705-674-8381, ext. 21.
