A number of local events are planned for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which takes place Jan. 18-25.

“At least once a year, Christians are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that 'they may be one so that the world may believe' (see John 17.21),” a press release said.

“Hearts are touched and Christians come together to pray for their unity. Congregations and parishes all over the world exchange preachers or arrange special ecumenical celebrations and prayer services.”

A major event will take place starting at 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Church of the Ascension, an Anglican church. Parishioners from 14 local churches will participate in the service.
Other events include:

Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. - Copper Cliff's four churches meet at the Copper Cliff United Church for a Christian unity service and reception.

Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. - Garson's churches will gather at St. John the Evangelist for a service and reception.
