Sudbury Theatre Centre is inviting visual artists to showcase their process by creating work live in its lobby during select performances of “Red” by John Logan.

“Red,” on stage March 26 to April 4, is an award-winning bioplay on the life and work of Mark Rothko, the bad boy titan of the art world.

STC seeks to recruit local visual artists to paint in the lobby before, during, and following each performance (approximately three hours' time) to help showcase and promote local artists and to augment its audience’s experience of the play by providing insight into the painter’s process.

STC is looking to attract artists who work primarily in the abstract realm as Rothko did. The company will furnish a studio space in its lobby for the artist’s use with basic amenities (drop cloths, easel, etc.).

Artists are asked to provide their own supplies (paint, canvas, brushes, etc.) and are invited to display promotional materials and discuss their work with the audience.

Participating artists may choose to create a entirely new work during the duration of performance or continue a work-in-progress.

Artists who wish to participate are asked to forward their interest and a digital sample of their work to [email protected].

All who submit themselves for consideration will receive an exclusive invitation to the private dress rehearsal of Red.
