Several downtown churches are participating in a walk around the downtown April 1 to create awareness of the needy and homeless.
The Walk of Faith and Exploration begins at 5 p.m. at Christ the King Church with a chili supper, followed by the walk, in which participants will join workers from Access AIDS and Community Outreach. A $5 donation is accepted.
“The group will walk to many places in our neighbourhood that reach out to people who call the street home,” a press release said. “We will be stopping to offer prayers as we move through the downtown.”
Afterwards, starting at 7:30 p.m., the Church of the Epiphany will hold a Tenebrae service. Meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” Tenebrae has been practised by the church since medieval times.
It's a prolonged meditation on Christ's suffering. Readings trace the story of Christ's passion, music portrays his pathos and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of the day.
