“I thought, 'Why not just give them something a bit more?'” said Frometa, who has worked part-time in the deli department at the South End Walmart for four years.

Frometa said her managers at Walmart surprised her with the news during one of her shifts last week.

“I didn't have any words,” she said. “I was smiling. My cheeks started to hurt.”

The 20-year-old Laurentian University concurrent education student said she owes her upcoming trip to Sudburians who voted online for a video of her singing Pharrell Williams' hit “Happy.”

“I just want to say thank you to the Sudbury community for supporting my dream,” Frometa said.

While in Arkansas, Frometa will perform for those attending the conference.

“People that have gone have said it's so much fun,” she said. “There's actually concerts, because Walmart is one of the biggest CD distributors. I just found out, but last year Pharrell was there, and he sang 'Happy.' ”
