Enemies of the Great White North and evildoers worldwide beware: Captain Canuck is back and stronger then ever with a new rebooted comic book series!

The Captain has a history of rising from the ashes. His first appearance was in Captain Canuck No. 1 in 1975, reviving the Canadian comic book industry from its collapse during Second World War.

He was reborn in 1993 for the “Captain Canuck Reborn” series, after a seven-year-absence, as Darren Oak, a Canadian secret agent battling a global conspiracy.

Richard Comely, the writer, is visiting North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins to promote the new edition, which hits newsstands May 27.

Fadi Hakem, owner of the Chapter House company and a devoted fan of Comely's work is the publisher of the new series.

“Fadi has been a driving force behind the new resurgence," Comely said. "It all started with a request by him to have a Captain Canuck sandwich in his Lakeview Restaurant, or maybe when he bought a copy of Captain Canuck when he was seven, his first comic-book purchase."

New Captain Canuck products, consisting of magnets, key chains, mugs, t-shirts, action figures and, of course maple syrup, have also contributed to the resurgence.

The comic was one of the 50 selected by Diamond Comic Distributors to be offered during Free Comic Book Day on May 2 in stores across the globe without charge. More then 75,000 copies have been ordered.

It will be available for purchase starting May 27 in newsstands and stores across the nation and the world through Ajax, Ontario Based Districor Distribution.

Comely and Hakim will visit Comics North (106 Elm Street) on April 24 at around 3 p.m. NorthernLife.ca has been told.
