NISA/Northern Initiative for Social Action welcomes the community through its doors for its Annual Spring Art Show, which takes place during Mental Health Week from May 4-8.

The theme of this year’s show is “People Like Me,” with a focus on the transformative stories of recovery from people with lived experience of mental illness.

This year’s pieces showcase the power and value of art in recovery.

NISA, a mental health organization run by and for people with lived experience of mental illness, regularly offers arts programming for its membership, and is opening up its permanent gallery to the public.

“We want our community to see the amazing pieces that are created by local artists,” said Kaarina Ranta. “It’s an opportunity for our artists to be recognized for their talent, and discussions around the importance of art in mental health recovery.”

The show's official opening starts at 7 p.m. May 6 at NISA. Refreshments will be provided. Otherwise, people are welcome to view the art from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

NISA is located downtown Sudbury at 36 Elgin St, 2nd floor. The space is wheelchair accessible.
