Francophone pride: June brings St-Jean-Baptiste celebrations

A week of fun and Francophone pride is planned in celebration of St-Jean-Baptiste Day in Sudbury next month.

A week of fun and Francophone pride is planned in celebration of St-Jean-Baptiste Day in Sudbury next month. Here's just a few of the activities in the works:

June 21

Pancake Breakfast – Free Admission

Desjardins Voyageurs Credit Union will offer a delicious pancake breakfast starting at 11 a.m. at the St-Dominique parish hall (1241 Diane St.). This breakfast is open to the public.

Family Day – Free Admission

Come celebrate at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Family Day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Collège Boréal. Come join us for a day full of games, cooking classes and much more. Great prizes to be won and there is something for everyone. There will also be a special show for kids, details to come.

June 24

Solidarity Act

Franco-Ontarian pride will be expressed through gestures of solidarity in schools and in the community. Take a selfie showing your Francophone pride and share it with us #FOcliché or @LeCFOF!

Flag Raising Ceremony

In celebration of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, l’ACFO du Grand Sudbury invites everyone to the official Franco-Ontarian flag-raising ceremony. This year, it will take place at 10 a.m. at the Dowling Leisure Centre.

St-Jean Luncheon

In the spirit of the St-Jean-Baptiste celebrations, a luncheon will be held at noon at the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury located at 19 Frood Rd. Tickets are $9 and seats are limited. Reserve your ticket by calling 705-670-2166.

Evening Celebration

St-Jean evening celebration and announcements of upcoming shows from La Slague! Stay tuned for more details.

June 25

Dinner and presentation of the Horace-Viau Award

This special event will take place at the Edgar Leclair Community Centre in Azilda starting at 6:00 p.m., where the Club Richelieu will present its prestigious Horace-Viau Award. Tickets are $40 per person or $300 per table of eight.
