I'll take a hometown visit for 500, Alex

In the next few weeks one of Sudbury's favourite – and arguably most famous – sons plans to visit his hometown.

During a recent visit to Ottawa, where he donated $2.4 million to his alma mater, the University of Ottawa, Alex Trebek said he plans to visit the Nickel City soon.

"I will be in Sudbury in the next few weeks,” the longtime host of the popular quiz show Jeopardy! told reporters in Ottawa. “I get to have my picture taken in front of the Big Nickel.”

While Trebek will get his picture taken in front of Sudbury's most famous landmark, Science North spokesperson Christine Catt said that as it stands, the science centre, which hosts the Big Nickel at its Dynamic Earth site, has no official plans with Trebek for his visit to Sudbury.

We Live Up Here, the project behind the book of photography and upcoming Up Fest music and arts festival, said, “Our Trebek senses are tingling” when they heard the popular television host would be returning to his hometown.

We Live Up Here have used Trebek's likeness as a meme for several years, to show pride in Sudbury with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

The group said on Facebook they hope to give Trebek a copy of the We Live Up Here book when he's in town.
