The local chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) holds its 19th annual general meeting May 27.

The meeting begins at 11.30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon, with guest speaker Benita Hart. The AGM will take place at the Howard Johnson Plaza on Brady Street.

The local CARP chapter supports initiatives to benefit aging citizens, now representing an ever-increasing portion of our population.

A meeting was held recently with Mayor Brian Bigger to promote seniors concerns, including free off-hour bus rides and safer winter sidewalks in the downtown. Plans for affordable convenient housing for seniors are being developed in conjunction with Collège Boréal.

As an advocacy group, the local chapter is concerned with health and financial issues for seniors and others requiring care as they age. More information can be found on the CARP website.

Annual membership in the local chapter is only $5.
