More than 45 Greater Sudbury churches from various Christian denominations are coming together for Elevate 2015.

The Elevate initiative will participate alongside Community Action Networks (CANs) in most of the 12 wards of Greater Sudbury in various community projects in neighbourhoods across the city. The goal, organizers said in a news release, is to make communities better "through unified acts of love and service."

Elevate in 2014 when various churches came together to identify and meet some tangible needs in Greater Sudbury.

Held over the course of this week, May 18-23, the event was officially proclaimed this month by Mayor Brian Bigger.

On May 22, groups will gather at various locations to pray "for our city and neighbourhoods". On Saturday, groups will gather to pitch in on projects in wards across the city. The weekend concludes with an Elevate Celebration at Glad Tidings Auditorium (1101 Regent St. South) on Sunday from 6-8 p.m.

The name ‘Elevate’ is inspired by a New Testament passage in Philippians, in which followers of Jesus are called to a disposition of humility and selfless love, mirroring the posture of Jesus.

“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had,” Philippians 2:3-5 states.
