Local plein air artist Christy A. Smith is preparing for her annual solo month-long painting sojourn in the bush.

This year, she's spending the month of June at a cabin she owns in a remote part of the Sudbury region. It's part of a 12-year project to paint the wilderness during every month of the year.

“As of yesterday, all my gear and art supplies, everything but the food, is now at the 10' x10' 'Herald Hut', where I will stay solo for my No. 5 art retreat trip to paint plein air for 30 days straight,” she said in an email to NorthernLife.ca.

“All the gear and 25 gallons of water has been backpacked out by myself and my husband, Thom. I am excited to be going in the summer months, something new for me, as previous years have been in the winter, spring and fall.

“I look forward to capturing the sounds and sights of Sudbury and sharing the results with the public at my next art show Sept 18th/19th at Fielding Park.

“Next year, 2016, I plan to go in April, which will mark half way, of my 12-year journey. I will reconnect you with exciting picture of my artwork and storied of my adventures when I return July 1. Til then, think of me in the bush during June.”
