Few movies have inspired as much devotion from their fans as Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The film was a smash hit when it was released in 1981, and has since become a cultural milestone that helped propel Harrison Ford to superstardom and spawned three sequels.

Downtown Movie Night Under the Stars will help reintroduce the action adventure classic to a new generation with a free screening tonight, at the parking lot corner of Durham and Cedar Streets.

But when the movie first released in the early 1980s, it had already inspired an entire generation of children.

In 1982, three boys — Chris Strompolos, Eric Zala, and Jayson Lamb – set out to produce a shot-for-shot remake of the classic film.

It took them seven years and a lot of hard work and ingenuity to finish their remake.

Although the full version can be difficult to track down, Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation has become a cult classic with Indiana Jones fans.

The trailer above shows the great lengths the boys – who grew into teenagers during the production – went to to remake their favourite film over a period of seven years.

They didn't have a multi-million dollar budget, but recreated the movie's famous set pieces regardless.
