Blue skies and sun-kissed faces are promised at the first annual New Sudbury Family Fun Days on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30.

Aimed at celebrating the neighbourhood's history and promoting all that New Sudbury has to offer, events will include bouncy castles, face painting, entertainment, and information displays by various community groups such as the New Sudbury Historical Society.

Events kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday morning in the parking lot at the New Sudbury Centre.

One of the more unique events is the mascot beauty contest, which will see more than 14 local mascots working hard to earn your vote. The winning mascot will ride with Mayor Brian Bigger in a convertible on Sunday as the event takes some time to celebrate the mayor's birthday.

Saturday evening starting at 4 p.m. urban poling will be offered and a guided trail walk at Adanac Park (744 Beatrice Cres.), followed by a free barbecue hosted by the Rotary Club, a screening at 8 p.m. of the Hideaway Pictures/Hallmark film "Midnight Masquerade" sponsored by the Sudbury Credit Union.

Before the screening, musician Don Kunto will keep the crowd entertained.

On Sunday, the fun starts at 10 a.m. with a pancake breakfast.

After breakfast, there will be a guided trail cycle and community gardens dedication and barbecue at Twin Forks. From 1-4 p.m., there will be a car show hosted by the Sudbury District Motorsports Association.

No plans this weekend? Why not have some fun in New Sudbury?
