Cinéfest Sudbury has announced two films that will appear in the First Cut Screenings line-up for the 27th edition of the festival.

First Cut Screenings is a program designed to offer filmmakers a unique opportunity to present their film to a critical audience for moderated feedback.

The two films are:

No Stranger Than Love [Nick Wernham, Canada, 2014]: What is stranger than the big hole that opens in Lucy Sherrington’s (Alison Brie) living room floor? As it turns out, love. There isn’t a man in town who isn’t in love with Lucy, and who can blame them? She is kind and helplessly sympathetic, yet romantically she keeps them all at a polite distance … until tonight.

Because tonight she has agreed to a rendezvous with Clint (Colin Hanks), the married coach of the high school football team. Just as they are about to begin their affair, Clint disappears down a hole that opens up in Lucy’s living room floor.

But this is not just any hole. It is an interdimensional, one-way hole of infinite darkness that leaves Clint stranded and floating in oblivion. Lucy must embark on a harrowing quest to rescue Clint while trying to keep their love affair a secret — all the while avoiding a dark stranger in town.

Perspective [B.P. Paquette, Canada, 2015]: Perspective (2012-2020) is an ongoing cinema experiment from award-winning Canadian filmmaker, and Laurentian University film professor, B. P. Paquette. Subtitled "Variations on a Love Triangle in 9 Chapters" Perspective is challenging, sophisticated and innovative filmmaking that features exceptional performances from Stéphane Paquette, Patricia Tedford and Pandora Topp, with music by Daniel Bédard and cinematography by Ivan Gekoff.

What makes this dramatic feature most unique is that it is not yet complete. Instead, a new chapter, starting in 2012, is presented every consecutive year at Cinéfest until the project is complete in 2020.

Each chapter is approximately 10-20 minutes, and the significant time lapse between chapters will be integrated into the narrative, thus allowing the actors to literally age throughout the film.

The first three chapters, titled, respectively, "Salt & Soda" (2012), and "Chris and Other Beards" (2013), and "Hush, hsuH" (2014), will be repeated this year as they lead into the fourth chapter, titled "Reflecting" (2015).

All First Cut Screenings screenings will take place at SilverCity Sudbury, at 355 Barrydowne Rd.

The 27th edition of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival runs from Sept. 19-27.
