Borealis, Sean Garrity’s Manitoba-set, comedic-drama road trip movie starring veteran comic actor Kevin Pollak and teen superstar Joey King, will be presented as part of the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival showing at the SilverCity Sudbury on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 12:00pm.

The film follows Jonah, an unemployed gambler, as he takes his estranged pot-smoking teenaged daughter Aurora on a dangerous road trip from Winnipeg to Churchill, Manitoba to show her the magnificent Northern Lights - before her vision disorder renders her completely blind.

With a volatile bookie in hot pursuit, Jonah and Aurora are forced to finally confront each other, their tragic pasts and their individual vices in unanticipated and often comical ways.

“We’re honoured that Borealis will be a part the incredible line-up of local and international talent at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival.” said Jonas Chernick, Borealis’ lead actor/writer/ producer.

“With powerhouse performances by young star Joey King and veteran actor Kevin Pollack the film is sure to hit home with audiences in Sudbury. Backed by Montreal native Emily Hampshire, we have a stellar cast, and a funny, thrilling, moving father-daughter story that is a perfect match for a festival dedicated to promoting Canadian cinema.”

Joey King was last seen in the lead role of Zach Braff’s “Wish I Was Here” and the acclaimed FX series “Fargo”. She recently starred in the box office smashes “The Conjuring”, “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”, and “White House Down”.

Her upcoming movies include “Independence Day: Resurgence”, the sequel to the record-breaking 1996 original, and “Going In Style”, opposite Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin. She was named in August 2014 by Variety as one of today’s Top Ten Teen Actors.

Kevin Pollak is one of film and TV’s living legends, known for his roles in such classic films as “The Usual Suspects”, “A Few Good Men”, “Casino”, “Grumpy Old Men” and “The Whole Nine Yards”. Kevin is an acclaimed stand-up comic who has been named by Comedy Central as one of the 100 Top Comedians of All Time.

Director Sean Garrity and actor/writer Jonas Chernick have been blowing up the Canadian film festival circuit for the past decade with their collaborative work on award winning films including “Inertia” (Best First Feature - TIFF 2001), “Lucid” (Best Western Canadian Feature - VIFF 2006) and “My Awkward Sexual Adventure” (People’s Choice Award - CIFF 2012). Sean Garrity and Jonas Chernick will be available for phone interviews prior to the festival and throughout the run.
