Sudbury's own bluegrass outfit Murder Murder have signed to a brand new record label, Indiecan Records.

The new music label celebrated its launch party in Toronto on Sept. 14, and Murder Murder will celebrate at The Fromagerie in Sudbury on Sept. 23.

The label's founder is Avi Federgreen, a film producer who has generated mainstream attention for productions such as One Week, Still Mine, Score: A Hockey Musical and Hungry Hills.

“I saw Murder Murder play at a North by Northeast (NXNE) festival showcase and was blown away,” said Federgreen. “I immediately contacted them and we agreed that Indiecan Records would be a great match.

“The Canadian music industry faces many of the same challenges as the Canadian film industry. We have many talented indie musicians in Canada that deserve to have their music heard.

“They write great music and put on amazing live shows but when it comes to the business side, many need someone who believe in them and is willing to help them record and distribute their music. That’s Indiecan Records.”

“All of us in Murder Murder are excited about working with Avi and Indiecan Records,” said Murder Murder’s Barry Miles.

“We feel like this is the best way for us to move forward and to get our music out there. After meeting with Avi and getting to know him, we see the possibility of great things happening in the future.”
