The Northern Lights Festival Boréal Oktoberfest was officially launched on Sept. 29 with the tapping of the first keg at the Towne House.

The Northern Noise Street Band played “Ein Prosit” while organizers toasted to the kick off of the event's second year.

This year's Oktoberfest, which takes place Oct. 2-3, promises to be bigger and better than last year, and the weather forecast is looking more promising than last year's chilly and rainy affair.

Bell Park will be transformed into a Bavarian beer festival with craft brews flowing from six different brewers including Sudbury's Stack Brewing who will be bringing back their Oktoberfest special, Lazer Hosen.

In true NLFB fashion, the two-day event will be all about the music with a number of live performances from a variety of artists. Sounds will range from funk to folk to soul, reggae, rock and of course traditional German music.

The Towne House is the official after hours location for the festival and admission is included in the price of your $20 weekend entry fee, which also includes a beer mug and free non-alcoholic beverages for designated drivers.
