Newfoundland’s Sherman Downey, an award-winning singer-songwriter from Corner Brook, will be the next featured performer in The Motley Kitchen’s Dinner and  a Show series Oct. 14. He will be accompanied on mandolin by Justin Mahoney.

Two years ago, Sherman’s group, Sherman Downey & The Ambiguous Case, won the top prize in the first-ever national CBC Music Searchlight competition, edging nearly 3,000 other entries from across Canada, based on voting by music fans.

Dinner and entertainment combined will cost you $50. Show-only seats are $19 each. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:30 p.m.

Seating is limited so reserve early by calling 705-222-6685 or drop by the Motley Kitchen, 70 Young St., during business hours (Monday- Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and now Friday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.).

Now pursuing a solo career, Downey’s music embraces folk-roots and country while flirting with pop-rock and at times even bossa nova.  His highly anticipated second album, The Sun in your Eyes, recently brought home Newfoundland and Labrador’s Pop/Rock Recording award, as well as the province's SOCAN Songwriter of the Year distinction.

Songs like the Searchlight winner ‘Thick as Thieves”  as well as gems like “Annalee” and “The Right Idea,” have found regular rotation across Canada on Campus Radio and the CBC, as well as garnering attention internationally with airplay on stations in LA, Australia and the UK.

The series is presented in association with Northern Lights Festival Boréal.
