A Sudbury film producer's movie has been rolled out in 600 theatres in the United States. “The Masked Saint,” filmed in Sault Ste. Marie in 2013, is also due to open in about 60 theatres in Canada on Jan. 22.

When contacted by NorthernLife.ca, a Cineplex spokesperson said the film will screen at SilverCity Sudbury, but said she can't confirm exactly when, as the schedule is still being finalized.

“It's the biggest-distributed film I've ever been involved in,” said Hideaway Pictures CEO David Anselmo, the film's co-producer. “I don't know any other film done up north that's in that many theatres.”

The Masked Saint
directed by Warren Sinoda, tells the story of a professional wrestler and family man who becomes a small town pastor, and eventually a masked vigilante.
The faith-based movie stars 1980s WWF wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper along with actors Brett Granstaff, Diahann Caroll and Patrick McKenna. It's Piper's last film. He passed away July 31, 2015.

“He cared about acting and he cared about wrestling,” Anselmo said. “He got to be involved in this one final movie that was about wrestling. We're very proud to have had him in the movie. We were really saddened by losing him, because he was just a great guy.”

Anselmo attended the film's American premiere in Nashville, Tenn., last week.

“It was great,” he said. “We had a full house. We had all the cast come down to Nashville. It was a nice little reunion after shooting this movie a year and a half ago.”
