There was big crimped hair, leg warmers and even blue eye shadow when it came time to take the stage to raise $35,000 for cancer on Jan. 30 at the first annual Sudbury Community Airbandz.

Eight teams competed for bragging rights - they were all fantastic and brought their 80’s flare and fashion, but only Weaver Simmons came out on top winning first place and Rick Cousineau who won the Spirit Award in memory of Jamie Gougeon.

“We are so proud of what a huge success the first annual Sudbury Community Airbandz was and even more excited that we raised $35,000 in support of the Northern Cancer Foundation” said Judy Gougeon, president of Gougeon Insurance Brokers. “We are already looking forward to planning next year’s event”.

The eight teams that took the stage were:
  • The Walden Rockers
  • Weaver Simmons Wannabees
  • NOCA Hairbandz (Sponsored by: Cecchetto & Sons)
  • Flexual Healing – Crossfit Sudbury (Sponsored by Gougeon Insurance Brokers)
  • Cambrian Ford “Storm Pilots”
  • The Section 8 Deductions – SRWC
  • Northern Cancer Foundation (Sponsored by: Technica Mining)
  • CTV Broadzband
