Have you ever wanted to rest your feet a spell or warm up for a minute while in the middle of the Ramsey Lake Skate Path?

Thanks to the first-year Laurentian University School of Architecture students, it's now possible to do just that.

The students have built four warm up huts — complete with benches — that have been erected along the skate path this week.

Laurentian Architecture master lecturer Ted Wilson said the students undertook the project in partnership with the City of Greater Sudbury.

The unique warm up huts — all different from each other — will be installed along the skate path every year from now on.

While the first-year students built ice fishing huts in previous years, this is the students' build project for 2016.

“The idea is really to have something that's very much in the mind of the community as an object,” Wilson said.

“It's so practical for people using the skate path. Anybody that's skated knows how the wind can rip down the lake. Having those positioned along the lake is really valuable.”

Laurentian Architecture is holding a kick-off for the warm up huts on Thursday. The Warm-Up Event takes place from 4-7 p.m. on the Elizabeth Street end of the skate path (near the Sudbury Canoe Club).

Activities include a bonfire, hot chocolate, student exhibits, the chance to try out the new warming huts, and skating, of course.
