Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op has teamed up with two seniors' organizations — CARP National and Club 111 — to present a unique double bill movie event Feb. 11. The event starts at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Place.

Both films being screened — Hip Hop-eration and Advanced Style — are award-winning documentary films that challenge the stereotypes associated with aging.

Hip Hop-eration, the tale of a group of New Zealand seniors on a quest to make it into the World Hip Hop World Championships in Las Vegas, enjoyed its Sudbury Premiere at Indie Cinema’s Best of HotDocs-Sudbury back in November.

“We’ve had numerous requests to play this doc again,” said Beth Mairs, Indie Cinemas project manager and Hot Docs programmer.

“It made sense to channel the interest into a larger downtown event, with more community partners and add a new outstanding doc.”

The screening of this film will be followed by a local panel moderated by Huntington University gerontology professor Birgit Pianosi.

The documentary making its Sudbury premiere is Advanced Style, a film that follows several fashionistas living in New York whose ages span 60-90 years of age.

A panel discussion by local inspiring seniors will take place after the screening of this film.
