Sudbury artist Rob Sacchetto is in the habit of posting one original drawing of a zombie every day to the “zombie daily” portion of his website.

After eight years of posting his work online, Sacchetto has quite a collection of zombie drawings. Many of them are female zombies drawn in a pinup girl style.

He decided these “zombie pinup divas” were perfect artwork for a deck of playing cards. “We did research, and we found there was a lot of people that just collect decks of cards, which is really cool,” Sacchetto said.

The only problem is that it's extremely costly to manufacture playing cards, as the minimum print run is 1,000.

Sacchetto — best known as a zombie portrait artist (yes, he can draw you as a zombie) — decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $12,700 it will cost to get the product on the market.

He's already raised about $1,600.

The campaign features a lot of great perks — a $25 pledge buys you a deck of zombie pinup divas playing cards (including shipping), and a $300 pledge means you can have your face or that of a loved one featured on one of the cards.

If the crowdfunding campaign is successful, he hopes to be able to deliver the playing cards and other perks by June.

This isn't the first time Sacchetto has used a crowdfunding campaign to make one of his ideas a reality. Last year, he raised $4,600 to create an adult colouring book featuring monsters, fairies, and, of course, zombies.

The idea was very popular — he's already done a second run of the colouring books. They're on sale at Bay Used Books for $20.

“It's thousands of people giving just a little bit to create something that's huge,” Sacchetto said. “That's the idea behind it, which is really cool.”
