The Laurentian University Staff Union (LUSU) approved their new collective agreement with the university Aug. 10.

The agreement was first presented to the executive and steward body, who approved it with 62 per cent voting yes, said Tracy Oost.

The general members then voted, with 82 per cent approving the new agreement.

Oost was not surprised at the approval, however, the entire process was very difficult, she said.

“The university has sunk to new lows while negotiating with us,” she said.

Oost dubbed the negotiating process as “Dominic days,” referring to new Laurentian University president Dominic Giroux.

Although the agreement was approved, Oost said the members are not happy.

They accepted the agreement because of difficult financial and economic times, she continued. The union is just thankful to have a collective agreement, said Oost.

Laurentian University will be holding its ratification vote this afternoon, said Oost.
