Canadian Blood Services is stressing the greater need for blood over the Easter long weekend.

Blood and platelet donations normally decrease over long weekends because people are away or busy with family activities. Because platelets have a shelf life of only five days, it is not possible to create a reserve; Making a blood donation before the long weekend helps ensure an adequate supply for those in need.

Blood and blood components are used to treat a number of injuries and illnesses, including various forms of cancer, hip and joint surgery, transplants, trauma patients such as car accident victims, patients with blood disorders, and many others.

The following donor clinics are planned for the Sudbury Blood Donor Clinic, located at 235 Cedar Street:

Mondays and Tuesdays 2:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursdays and Fridays 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Phone 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) for more information.
