Cambrian College hosted a visit by representatives from higher education institutions in Finland, Spain, and Scotland, who were at the college on April 8, as part of the Canada-European Union program for co-operation in higher education, of which Cambrian College is the lead Canadian partner.
The representatives toured the campus and made a number of presentations to Cambrian students and faculty about the program, which supports academic exchanges involving faculty and students and the development of international curriculum and credit recognition.
As part of their Canadian tour, the European representatives from Hyvinkkää-Riihimäki College of Adult Education in Finland; the Scottish Agricultural College in the United Kingdom; and the Universidad Católica, San Antonio de Murcia, Spain, visited the other Canadian institutions in the partnership - the College of the Rockies in British Columbia and Mount St. Vincent University in Nova Scotia.
Together, the partner institutions in Canada and Europe are working toward promoting a better understanding of sustainable tourism and are exploring international competencies that will lead to an International Sustainable Tourism Certificate.
Through this partnership, students from Cambrian College will be able to undertake an exchange in either Finland, Spain, or Scotland in the United Kingdom.
While in Sudbury, the European university representatives will also meet with city representatives, tour the city, and visit local tourist attractions, such as Science North and Dynamic Earth.
"Cambrian College is pleased to be a partner in this initiative, and to host a visit by our European counterparts," said Ibrahim Alladin, director of Cambrian International, in a release.
"We are looking forward to a very advantageous visit, as it will be an important step toward fostering transatlantic collaboration and the creation of future international linkages."
