The Canadian Cancer Society has launched a new youth volunteer recruitment program, aimed at high school students between the ages of 14 and 18, in order to engage more youth in leadership volunteer roles.

In Ontario, high school students are required to complete 40 hours of mandatory community service in order to graduate. A strategic creative campaign has been developed, which includes a youth-specific website, tying into their opinion on volunteering.

"We understand that youth lead full lives and whether they only need to complete a few hours or their full 40, we have a volunteer opportunity for everyone," a press release stated.

The website - www.my40hours.ca - makes searching for volunteer opportunities that much easier.

Youth interested in volunteering can visit the website, click on the "Apply Now" tab and complete a volunteer interest form. Students can also ask about the program at secondary schools in the Sudbury area.

For more information about the program, call Cathy Burns, unit manager at the Canadian Cancer Society at 670-1234 ext. 3711.
