Sudbury students attending Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario schools made a good showing Dec. 1 at the regional cardboard boat races competition for secondary schools.
The activity, held in Espanola, was put on by Skills Canada Ontario, a nation-wide organization whose mission is to awaken student interest in the trades.
Each four-student team is required to design and build a boat during the event. Students were judged on the design and construction quality of their boats, teamwork, organization, security and cleanliness, creativity, team spirit and the speed and resistance of their vessels.
Collège Notre-Dame's team won the silver medal. The winning students will travel to Kitchener in February to participate in the Cardboard Boat Races Provincial Championships.
École secondaire catholique l’Horizon’s team won the bronze medal, and will therefore participate in the provincial competition for the fourth straight year.
