Collège Boréal’s ultrasound program has been granted a two-year accreditation ending Dec. 31, 2011 following an extensive evaluation process undertaken by the Canadian Medical Association Program Accreditation Committee.
The accreditation is based on the learning outcomes and their ability to satisfy the core competencies of the profession at the national level, according to a press release from the college.
“Securing this accreditation proves once again that Collège Boréal is committed to offering the best possible training in order to meet the needs of ultrasound professionals,” said Collège Boréal’s dean of health and community services, Jocelyne Bédard, in the press release.
“In addition, it is even more important to effectively meet the requirements for this profession as there exists a shortage of specialists in this field. Besides, Collège Boréal is the only institution in Canada to offer this post-diploma program in French.”
The ultrasound program at Collège Boréal is geared to Bachelor of Science graduates who have at least one full course in Anatomy and Physiology, practitioners in Medical Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Nursing, Nuclear medicine, Echocardiography and Vascular Ultrasonography. Candidates are expected to meet certain academic requirements.
The Canadian Medical association accreditation provides external validation of program quality. Such an endorsement provides a guarantee of appropriate training responsive to current medical requirements. It ensures that graduates have acquired the necessary competencies to pursue a career in this area of health service.
