Collège Boréal students and staff have raised $27,000 this year for the Greater Sudbury and District United Way/Centraide.
“It is reassuring to know that even during these difficult times, with the economy as uncertain as it is, our community can still count on the support of the staff and students of Collège Boréal which this year almost tripled the $10,000 goal which we had set for ourselves,” said the college's president, Denis Hubert, in a press release.
Lyse-Anne Papineau, chair of the charity's 2009-10 campaign, congratulated the college for contributing more to the campaign than they ever have.
“It’s obvious Collège Boréal’s tremendous energy translates equally into great dedication which it proves every day. Collège Boréal’s ingenuity represents a veritable example to other organisations who want to increase their contribution to United Way/Centraide in a creative and enjoyable manner.”
Stéphanie Leclair and Denis Brouillette, co-chairs of Collège Boréal’s United Way/Centraide campaign, attribute the success of the campaign to the theme chosen by students, Fun-Raising.
“We wanted to continue the Fun-Raising theme, and demonstrate once and again that working for one’s community can not only be enriching personally but also recreationally. Without a doubt, this is probably the reason that the payroll deductions alone increased by 20 per cent.”
Among the many activities organized for this year’s campaign were electronic bingo (through e-mail), and a draw for gift baskets, four days off and three parking passes for 2010.
