When the executive director of the Infant Food Bank learned that Petryna Advertising wanted to pay for an awareness campaign to promote the charity during the month of December, she said she was “humbled” and “overwhelmed.”

“I was in awe that they'd want to do something like that,” said Ginette Withers.

The Infant Food Bank, part of the Pregnancy Care Centre of Sudbury, currently serves 312 families. Withers said the downturn in the local economy and the labour dispute at Vale Inco have increased the numbers the centre is serving.

The awareness campaign is multi-faceted, including eight large roadside billboards, an e-mail and website campaign and radio advertisements.

The billboards show a naked baby which has items it needs stencilled in with white lines, including a diaper, formula and wipes. The slogan “All I need for Christmas” is at the top of the billboards, and at the bottom is the address and contact information for the Infant Food Bank.

Several businesses are acting as drop-off points for the Infant Food Bank this month, including the Holiday Inn on Regent Street, or any Bright Spot, Starlite, Sudbury Steam or Uptown Cleaners locations.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Pregnancy Care Centre, which is located in suite 216 at 430 Notre Dame Avenue.

  • Same here, resident. Such a good cause and I was completely unaware of it.

  • I didn't even know there was such a thing as an Infant Food Bank. Now I know and will definetly be donating some items.
