New home construction in Sudbury decreased slightly this past January when compared to January 2008, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
"Consistent with our forecast of slowing home ownership residential construction activity in 2009, home starts declined in January," said Warren Philp, Northern Ontario Market Analyst with the CMHC.
"The pause in activity being witnessed in Greater Sudbury's new home market is not surprising given the city's sensitivity to changes in the global economic climate."
There were six single family house starts in January 2009 as opposed to 11 in January 2008. There were four apartment unit starts in both January 2009 and January 2008.
