Twenty-one students from Lasalle Secondary School will present memoirs April 7 to 12 seniors at the Finlandia Village in Sudbury.

It's all part of the Grade 12 Individuals and Family in a Diverse Society course. Students are learning about the five stages of the life cycle and the trends within Canadian society.

Family, friends, Finlandia personnel and volunteers are being invited to participate in the celebration along with the students and their senior partners. It will take place at 10:30 a.m.

"It promises to be an emotionally rewarding experience for all who attend," says teacher Kathy Lebreton. "The memoirs will bring the personal and poignant stories of the seniors to life in a lasting tribute that will be treasured for generations to come."

The specially-bound albums of memories and photographs will focus on a number of themes - early childhood and early school days; young adult years, high school, dating, courtship, war experiences, and the depression; raising a family, marriage, babies, parenting, and community involvement; earning a living, volunteering and retirement; hobbies and celebrations; and relationships, including important people, pets and places.

In Rainbow Schools, the memoirs writing program is providing a rich history lesson while promoting literacy, a press release stated. Students are not only gaining an appreciation for the many contributions seniors have made, they are also putting their creative abilities to the test as they capture these vibrant pasts on paper - for today and, more importantly, for tomorrow.
