The new, four lane section of highway that connects Sudbury to Estaire, part of the Highway 69 upgrade, was opened on Nov. 12.
Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci opened the new stretch of highway.
"This is truly a milestone for all the people who have worked so diligently to make the dream of a safe, efficient four-lane Highway 69 a reality," said Bartolucci in a release.
Upgrading the two-lane highway between Parry Sound and Sudbury has been an ongoing project, with construction on this particular stretch beginning in 2005. It created over 1,300 jobs, explained Bartolucci.
"The expansion of Highway 69 south of Sudbury is a major transportation infrastructure improvement that increases safety, and generated construction jobs and promotes economic growth in the north," said minister of transportation, Jim Bradley.
