Cambrian College students are helping the Canadian Cancer Society to raise funds for pediatric cancer research by hosting a teddy bear picnic from 1 - 3 p.m. Nov. 22 in Cambrian College’s Student Centre.

Students from the College’s Police Foundations and Child and Youth Worker programs are organizing this year’s event.

They are inviting the public to come out to the “picnic” and to bid on the many teddy bears that have been generously donated to the event. The Teddy Bear Picnic will feature a silent and live auction of teddy bears that have their own unique outfits.

Children’s activities will include a colouring contest and a kids-only silent auction table, so that even young people can get involved in giving back to the community.

Students from Cambrian’s Baking and Pastry program will also serve up a five-foot tall cake shaped like a teddy bear, and nursing students will give each bear a clean bill of health before they head home with their new owners.

All funds raised by the auction will go towards pediatric cancer research. Cambrian College students have taken a lead role in organizing the event in Sudbury for the past three years.

Donations of bears will be accepted up to Nov. 20. To make a donation, or for more information, please contact Ernie Walchuk at Cambrian College at (705) 566-8101, extension 7442.
