Two roads within Greater Sudbury have been named to the list of the top 20 worst roads in Ontario in 2009.

The contest is put on by the Canadian Automobile Association and Ontario Road Builders' Association.
Vermillion Lake Road ranked number nine on the list, while Regent Street ranked number 14.

This year close to 10,000 people voted for the road, highway or bridge in their community they wanted to see get fixed, stated a press release from the associations.

"This is the highest number of votes we've ever seen in the seven years of this campaign," said Faye Lyons, external relations specialist for CAA South Central Ontario, in the press release. "For the first time, we've also seen almost half the roads on the list come from the City of Toronto."

"Substandard roads and bridges increase the damage done to vehicles and costs to families and businesses," said Rob Bradford, executive director Ontario Road Builders' Association. "Properly maintained roads and bridges also mean fewer injuries and deaths, reduced environmental impact, enhanced economic competitiveness and reduced life-cycle costs to taxpayers."
