Le Voyageur, a French-language newspaper, has upgraded its Internet presence and now is updated daily.

With a complete make-over and the daily updates, www.levoyageur.ca is now the largest French-language website to offer news about Sudbury and northern Ontario.

Le Voyageur is an important link for French-speaking people who live in the north, stated a news release.

"The website doesn't only mirror our paper anymore. It is now a daily source of information," explained Julien Cayouette, Le Voyageur's webmaster, in the news release.

"(The website) allows us to publish daily news about our city and about the French community of the Mid-North. We are not confined to the weekly newspaper."

Le Voyageur is the only Sudbury area media that reports on political, economic, community, cultural and sports news in French.

"Eventually, between our paper and our web editions, the amount of information about the French community of the north will be the largest ever," added Cayouette.

In addition to the news, the La Voyageur website will also have columns on new technologies, media issues, and journalist blogs. There will be photo galleries, a community calendar, obituaries, classifieds, polls, and contests.

"It's only the beginning. The site will grow over the next months. We will be adding new elements and different functions that will make it a truly unique read," said Cayouette.
