Students to prepare fall feast

Staff and students at Churchill Public School will prepare and eat a Fall Harvest Feast Oct. 7.

The feast gives students a sense of community by creating a "family dinner" atmosphere.  All the students contribute to the feast by donating a potato and a carrot. They also take turns peeling vegetables for the dinner.

Parent volunteers help bring the event together. Some parents volunteer to cook vegetables and turkeys. Others serve students the day of the feast. Parents also donate carrots, potatoes, desserts and lemonade. Those who volunteer at the feast also enjoy the dinner.

The grades are mixed so that intermediate, junior and primary students are all eating together. Superintendents and trustees are also invited.

“Each class at Churchill assumes some responsibility for the feast,” says principal Dave Farrow, in a news release.

“Some classes make stuffing. Other classes take care of desserts. Some classes butter buns. Others slice pickles and celery sticks. “Some students provide beautiful artwork, centerpieces and napkin rings.” He adds: “Each student designs a placemat for this special day. The feast is a wonderful way to give thanks.”

Churchill Public School is home to some 400 students from JK to Grade 8.
