More than 1,200 children have attended the fifth annual Sudbury Children’s Water Festival at Anderson Farm Museum in Lively over the past three days.

This festival is designed to educate children about the use, consumption, and protection of water.

Grade 3 and 4 students visited and learned from 34 hands-on, bilingual activity centres featuring topics that are part of the Ontario school curriculum. There were five new activities this year, which included: Paper Pots, Why Not?, On Thin Ice, Will It Float?, Glow Germ Go and Jim's Portable Toilets & Septic Service.

More than 30 sponsors donated everything from building supplies to staff time in support of the festival. Volunteers included people from a variety of backgrounds, which further enriched the children’s learning experience.

The activity centre presenters included a number of local scientists and students from local high schools and colleges.

“This festival would not have been possible without the help from our generous sponsors,” said Sudbury Children’s Water Festival co-ordinator, Pierre Gervais, in a press release. “Their continued support is vital to making the festival a success.”
