Wal-Mart in Sudbury raised $11,235 for the Sudbury Special Olympics from sales of paper torches sold in the store. Wal-Mart staff held a fundraising chili day and sold 50/50 tickets.

Greater Sudbury Police and Special Olympics representatives set up a table collecting donations. The Sudbury location was #1 across Canada for selling torches during the month of January. This is the first year the store sold torches.

  • Way to go Wallymart! I''d wish they''d set more Walmarts in this neck of the woods, especially in Elliot Lake where there''s a bunch of ardent and millitant "we sell only 3 things boutique" patrons that don''t want it. LOL

  • I wonder where all the anti-Wal*Mart people are in this story? You remember them? The ones that cried that if the city allowed Wal*Mart to set up shop they would devastate the economy. Push out the little guy and be an evil conglomerate?
