Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) will receive federal government funding in the amount of $1,066,302 to add daycare centres to its St-Pierre and St-Denis schools in Sudbury.

These new services will allow the CSCNO to better meet the needs of families served by these schools and facilitate children’s transition from the home to daycare and school, stated a press release from the school board.

With the coming launch of construction of the new École St-Denis building on Centennial Drive, this funding will permit the board to incorporate a modern space into the new school for infants and preschoolers up to the age of four.

The daycare centre will open in September 2011.

The contribution will also allow for renovating and reconfiguring current space at École St-Pierre, located on Wilfred Street in Sudbury, in order to house a daycare centre. The new service is planned for no later than September 2011.

“The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario has long recognized the importance of providing this early childhood service so as to help them our children develop and thrive even before they attend junior kindergarten,” stated CSCNO chair Marcel Montpellier, in a press release.

“Adding Francophone daycares at St-Pierre and St-Denis schools responds to the needs of parents who want to ensure success for their children.”

“By adding daycare centres to its schools, the CSCNO enables children to begin their school years on a firm linguistic footing,” added CSCNO director of education Lyse-Anne Papineau. “In a minority setting, it is essential for us to provide a learning environment to children from a very early age and contribute to their academic success and to their cultural identity.”

The funding for this CSCNO project comes from the Canada-Ontario Agreement for Minority-Language Education and Second-Language Instruction. This federal government initiative benefits from the support of Ontario’s Ministry of Education.

  • second_account: I hope your post remains. It is an example of how ill informed you really are! Except for this year, in which Ontario received 500 million in transfer payments, we have always been the major contributor to transfer payments. All these payments go to the whining francofunny in quebec, where English is illegal and french the "working language!" These transfer payments are drawn from the nine Canadian Provinces and Territorys and paid out to quebec. On top of that all nine Canadian Provinces have to fund francofunny programs within their jurisdictions at the expense of Canadian programs.

  • Lets see we have Junior Junior Kindergarten which is essentially subsidized day care, now the French board gets a million more. Blatant Vote buying.....

  • And where is the announcement for English public school funding?
It should be at least 5x more cash considering the population they serve.
Of course, we see more of everyone's tax money going to prop up the french 'culture'.

The pro-french folks will react stating they are being discriminated against. Even claiming they are a race. As long as the cash flows the francophone way, the votes are bought and paid for.
Simple question: "How much money has been spent to promote, protect and celebrate English culture? Our education system? Our daycare?

  • once again, the clueless one rants about those different than himself.
Since this whole transfer payments to Quebec issue seems to weigh heavily on you, why don't you educate us all as to how bad it really is? Give us some numbers, say, how many million $ more they receive than Ontario does. Provide facts to back up your statements.
Otherwise, you simply look like a racist, intolerant fool.
I predict this post of mine will last less than 1 hour on the site and will get pulled, like so many other rebuttals to these bigoted comments the NL seems to happily post.

  • You, Viking are very ignorant. You don't like FRENCH people and Canadians are not being neglected.I can't stand idiots like you.

  • And what do Canadian non-denominational boards get for our tax dollars which all go to quebec in transfer payments? Another great example of Canadians being neglected and the francofunny getting the benefit of Canadian tax dollars.
