Canada's chief public health officer, Dr. David Butler-Jones, will speak at a Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) symposium March 25 about the H1N1 influenza pandemic.

Butler-Jones will be making his presentation from 12-1 p.m. in room 107 of NOSM's building at Laurentian University. The presentation will also be video-linked to NOSM's west campus in Thunder Bay.

The speaker will provide insight into how Canada’s first pandemic in nearly 40 years unfolded, how and why the country was able to respond as it did, and how strengthening relationships between
every sector of society will ultimately determine how we respond to future outbreaks.

Butler-Jones heads the Public Health Agency of Canada which provides leadership on the government’s efforts to protect and promote the health and safety of Canadians.

He has worked in many parts of Canada in both Public Health and Clinical Medicine, and has consulted in a number of other countries.  He has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and has been involved as a researcher in a broad range of public health issues, according to a press release.

Limited seating is available for the presentation.  Contact Sherry Mongeau at 662-7257 or e-mail sherry.mongeau@normed.ca to reserve your seat.

  • Will Dr. David Butler-Jones explain what a scam it was and how the government, media and public health officials over reacted and made fortunes for the drug companies and how there are millions of doses of vaccine sitting un needed and un used?
or will he try to justify the billion dollar boondoggle?
