The Sudbury Regional Hospital is the recipient of $10.7 million from the provincial government's Post Construction Operating Plan (PCOP) program.

The funding will help the hospital expand its inpatient and ambulatory care departments, as well as facility and start-up related costs for the new one-site hospital.

"With the new single site, the hospital will be expanding many of its clinical services," Dr. Denis Roy, hospital president and CEO said, in a press release.

"For example, we have more operating rooms and a larger emergency department, and this funding will now allow us to operate these expanded services for our patients."

The funding from this project will become a permanent part of the centre's annual operating budget.

Since 2003-2004, the hospital has received more than $71 million increase in base funding.

"The government has always been committed to moving forward with our community's health care goals," said Rick Bartolucci, Sudbury MPP. "It is through this commitment, that Sudburians will soon have access to all hospital-based acute and rehabilitation health care services under one roof."
